The Vigilance Organisation is headed by Senior Deputy General Manager, who is the
Chief Vigilance Officer of South East Central Railway. Railway is committed to provide
clean and efficient rail service to the public. In order to bring transparency,
Railway looks forward for your active co-operation in the following areas:
• Purchase tickets from Railway Booking/Reservation Counter or Authorized Travel
Agent. Purchase of tickets from touts and unauthorized agents is illegal and will
entail consequences like being detrained, realization of charges and prosecution.
• Plan your journey in advance and purchase the tickets by availing the facility
of making reservation 90 days in advance.
• Traveling under another person’s name
is an offence under Section 142 of the Railways Act which pertains to travel on
transferred tickets. Passengers who purchase transferred tickets are likely to be
detrained, fined and even prosecuted. The penalty for transfer of tickets will be
a
fine of Rs.500/- or imprisonment up to 3 months or both.
Such tickets purchased
by the passengers will be forfeited and they will be treated as traveling without
ticket. Hence, passengers are advised not to purchase tickets, which are sold by
touts or unauthorized travel agents.
• Unauthorized selling and buying of reserved
tickets is an offence under Section 143 of the Railways Act. The penalty for unauthorized
purchase and sale of tickets will be
a fine of Rs.10,000/- or imprisonment up to
3 years. Passengers who purchase tickets from unauthorized travel agents may lose
both their tickets and the reserved accommodation, if such tickets are confiscated
during raid.
• If you come across any instance of malpractice or corruption in any
sphere of working, please take the trouble of informing us giving details such as
date and time of occurrence, Train No., details of railway personnel regarding the
irregularity noticed by you.
The identity of the complainant is kept secret and
he is not exposed at any stage of inquiry, investigation or trial. The information
will be kept confidential and will help the Railway Administration correct such
irregularities by taking action against the erring official.
• Vigilance Department
carries out regular checks and investigation into the complaints received from public
or from its own employees. Complaints on corruption are investigated, after verifying
the genuineness of the complainant. The category of complaints covers viz., harassing
public by means of unfair demands, showing favoritism in award of contracts, misappropriation/embezzlement
of government money by showing false or fabricated purchases, execution of sub-standard
work, fake appointments, nepotism in departmental selections, promotions and undue
advantage to anyone without any public interest.
